to the Chandler Family Association website. Please explore the site’s pages to learn about the Association. The Chandler Family Association (CFA), formed in 1991, is a group of people researching their Chandler roots. There are over 400 members in 39 U.S. states and several other countries.
Many of our members descend from John Chandler, born 1600, who came from England to Jamestown, Virginia, in 1610. There are also members who have different Chandler lineages. The CFA serves all its members, no matter what their Chandler lineage is, and is a vehicle for sharing information among all.
The CFA is co-sponsor of the Chandler DNA Project to determine the various Chandler lines. Over 200 men with the Chandler surname have completed DNA testing to supplement and help confirm their traditional research. At this time more than 50 genetically distinct Chandler families have been identified. If you are a male with an unbroken Chandler line, you are invited to take the DNA test to see whether you belong to one of the established genetic families, or your DNA has a pattern we have not seen before, in which case you would be the first member of an entirely new genetic family within the project. We
estimate that there may be as many as 150 genetically distinct Chandler
lines which originated in Europe but now have members spread around the
world.
Several members have published comprehensive articles or books containing their research. The outstanding Chandler Family Association Newsletter, published three times a year, contains research articles by our members.
Please consider becoming a member of The Chandler Family Association. The CFA welcomes men and women who are Chandlers or are interested in Chandler genealogy. |

Another Genetic Family Story AddedVisit the Genetic Chandler Families page to read the family story of genetic Chandler family 37, whose earliest known ancestor is Joseph B. (Joe Buster) Chandler born in Spokane, Washington, in 1899. More family histories are in process and will be added soon.
CFA website to include all Genetic Chandler Families
Because the Chandler Family Association embraces and invites participation from all Chandler descendants, no matter their lineage or geographical origin, we are proud to announce the expansion of our website to make it possible for all known genetic Chandler families to post their history here. This will be a work in progress for some time, as many family stories must be collected. You can see the progress to date at the Genetic Chandler Families page. When you have read the explanatory paragraphs at the top of the page, scroll down and click any of the underlined numbers (those are the active links) to see the story of that genetic family. We will alert you here when additional family stories are added.
Hampton, Virginia, site of 2010 annual meeting
The 2010 annual meeting of the Chandler Family Association will be September 16-18 in Hampton, Virginia. This meeting will be three days instead of the usual two, so make your plans now to arrive in time for a special event on Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be reserved for the usual visiting and sharing and our business meeting. We will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of John Chandler’s arrival in Virginia and, at the same time, the city of Hampton will be celebrating its 400th anniversary. Visit our meetings page for hotel information and links to Hampton area information.
