Noah Carr Chandler Family Reunion in Washington State

A reunion of descendants of Noah Carr Chandler was held on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Nelson Cox's pond in Warden, Washington, during the day and at Gary Chandler's home in Moses Lake, Washington, in late afternoon and evening. The 67 participants were there from Seattle, Spokane, Wenatchee and Moses Lake, Washington. The majority of Noah Carr Chandler's descendants are still in south central Arkansas, but no members of the family from Arkansas were able to attend. These photos were submitted by Bobby Glyn Chandler, who said they were not able to get a photo of the entire group because family members were coming and going all day.

Noah Carr Chandler was born in 1886. Noah's line of descent back to John Chandler of Jamestown, according to Bobby, is as follows: Theoderick Archer (T.A.) Chandler b.1858 > Littleberry Chandler b.1839 > Alexander Jackson Chandler b.1815 > Robert Chandler b.1773 > Joel Chandler Jr. b.1740 > Joell Chandler Sr. b.1683 > Robert Chandler Jr. b.1659 > Robert Chandler Sr. b.1630 > John Chandler b.1600. Descendants of Lester N. Chandler -- Robert Chandler b. 1775 > Hiram Chandler > John Chandler > Lester N. Chandler > Walter Chandler > CFA member Jackie Cahoon

Jackie and Les Cahoon recently traveled to Narrows, Virginia, for the 2008 reunion of descendants and relations of her grandfather, Lester N. Chandler. This family is Group 8 in the Chandler DNA Project. Jackie reports attendance was down a little this year because the hurricanes caused some travel problems. The photo at right shows Jackie standing by the grave of her parents, Walter and Elsie Chandler, at Shiloh United Methodist Cemetery in Holly Brook, Bland County, Virginia. Jackie says, "Dad, who was a sweetheart, selected the heart-shaped stone." Photos courtesy of Jackie Cahoon

Surviving Children of James Milton Chandler, Sr. (30 Sep 1893 - 18 Jan 1988) -- James Milton was the son of Willis Robert (12 Feb 1861 - 27 Sep 1949) and grandson of Hampton, born between 1806 and 1813 in South Carolina. This photo was taken at the Chandler/Fortenberry family reunion in Terrebonne, Oregon, in the summer of 2005. James Milton's wife was Maudie Lutishie Inman. His mother (Willis Robert's wife) was Sophronia Henslee and Hampton's second wife (mother of Willis Robert) was Margaret Smith. One daughter, Bertie, died in 1977. This 2005 photo is the last picture of the remaining 11 children, as William Willis (Bill) Chandler, second from left on the front row, died in May 2006. The siblings are arranged in birth order starting left to right in the front and right to left in back (counter clockwise). Photo courtesy of Robert P. Chandler -

David A. Chandler - A reunion of Indiana Chandlers, descendants of David A. Chandler, was held during summer 2007. David was born in 1830 and died in 1926 at the age of 96. He was a blacksmith and spent his entire life in Surry County, North Carolina. He married Celia Gordon in 1852, and they resided near Pilot Mountain. Their neighbors were Eng and Chang Bunker, the famous Siamese twins. Most of the Indiana Chandlers are descendents of David's sons Edward Swain (1866-1955) or Nathaniel (1856-1940). Vern Chandler, who provided these photos, says "I'm a descendent of Nathaniel via my grandfather John Anderson Chandler and my father William Lavern Chandler. My grandfather and his wife Della Mae Southern moved to Indiana shortly before my father was born in 1917, but I'm not sure when the descendents of Swain moved there from our North Carolina home."
